“This is Radio-Free Dragon*Con…”
All transmissions over Tech Main (the main radio channel for tech) have been recorded since 2002. The computer devoted to recording these broadcasts is one of the first pieces of equipment set up, and one of the last to be taken down. The software we use saves off a file after about seven seconds of silence, which generally means that each soundfile contains a whole conversation (or, in the case of many of the soundfiles, several overlapping conversations). While we’re at it … here’s a huge thank you to YoGen Software. For four years now, we have been using their excellent software, AudioMagic, to make Radio Free Dragon*Con possible. This year, they really came through for us. They agreed to add a special feature to the next version just for us, and they let us use a preview copy for ‘con, since it wasn’t going to be released in time. It worked flawlessly. Thank you, Gen! We’ve time-compressed these files slightly by cutting multiple-second silences down to a half second or a whole second, depending on the year. It makes it easier to follow conversations.
