In Memoriam: Phil "Grape Bitch/Ink Pad" Searfoss
Congratulations are like pie …

I should have sent this out yesterday, but I was too busy sleeping … thank you tech staff!

It’s hard to explain to people why I work this {{link http://www.dragoncon.org freakshow}} every year. I could sleep or vacation over Labor Day weekend, but instead I decide to labor for no pay. Why subject yourself to snooty sci-fi stars and strange working hours? Why spend a weekend running VCRs from Harris to Hong Kong/Cario, running a maze of Stormtroopers, goths, Klingons and large women in Sailor Moon costumes that were obviously designed for much smaller surface areas?

Well, part of it is that we like this convention … nay, love this convention … and we know the show would not go on without volunteers. The rest of it is that we like working with each other, and the weekend is really an excuse to cause group havoc with our friends.

The con it its own little world. It has its own ecosystem (constantly 72F with 30% humidity, except for Harris which becomes the Artic Circle at night). It has it’s own politics. It has its own timezone (Eastern non-standard time). The con is another world … and apparently we run it.

Everybody on tech staff kicked butt this year. Thanks for making my long weekend of not sleeping a great experience.

PS - Thank Patrick for the Masquerade intro.

I think we had an awesome weekend. I had an incredible amount of fun. Thanks to Thomas, the fearless leader. Thanks to Jody for night-shift hilarity. Thanks to Jess for keeping some sort of organization in CennDay. Thanks to Andrew for the back rubs.

Thanks to everyone for kicking arse! I can’t wait for next year.

from the temp and humidity "we are tech-ops resistance is futile, our technology will serve you as we see fit,our unique culture will devour yours"
