Feeding the masses at d*c

So…since I’m making sure that all of you guys get fed while you’re trapped for hours and hours in rooms making sure things work…

I need to know how much money you plan to contribute towards your feeding for the weekend of d*c. If I know in advance roughly how much fundage I’m going to get, then that will help me plan out how much (and what kind of) food I can have available that weekend.

I’ve talked with most of you about the kind of food you’re wanting. If I haven’t, drop me an email.

I’m also the one that gets to be the royal pain in the ass & say to people, ‘if you didn’t pay, don’t eat our stuff or I’ll have to amputate something vital.’

The plan: a massive Sam’s run on the Thursday afternoon. I’m hoping to have enough to provide a constant barrage of energy-ish snacks, fruit, Gatorade, some pretty hefty sandwich makings, and hopefully one good substantial meal that’s available all day (to accommodate everyone’s strange hours). More fundage than what I’m expecting means better food / larger quantities.

For now, here’s what to do: drop me an email at feedmedammit@domesticat.net. Let me know how much you’re going to contribute - remember, I’m going to hold you to this, so be honest!

Then, let’s talk payment. You can either

a) make arrangements with starlady to drop fundage into her paypal account, which she will then forward to me

b) send me a check

c) arrange to pay me when you arrive and pick up your badge.

The amount of your contribution stays between the two of us, so don’t worry - I won’t tell anyone how broke you are.

The more people that pay me before d*c starts (hint, hint) the sooner the food will be made available (hint, hint).

It’s whatever you feel comfortable giving.

(I feel like such a smarmy charity when I say that. "Feed the poor helpless crew…")

If you’re curious as to the general level, I’ve seen donations from the $10-$40 level so far.

The general idea is that by pooling our money, we can get a good variety of semi-nutritious stuff in bulk from Sam’s - while, in the end, spending MUCH less than we would on restaurants, room service, and/or delivered pizza.

Hell, I’m Sally Struthers. I’m wading through this dirty hotel hallway to show you the conditions these technical support staffers live in. DragonCon technical services staffers sleep in empty convention rooms or hotel hallways, often working for 27 hours between meals. They subside on chips, coffee, popcorn, and beer that Anthony Daniels leaves on the edge of the stage. With your donations, the "Feed The Starving Tech" fund hopes to provide these volunteers with a large percentage of the four basic groups (after a small percentage is taken out for the "Feed My Fat Unemployed Ass Foundation").
Please give what you can. Help these starving geeks make ends meet, before they resort to part-time jobs in the adult novelty industry.
